Take-off and arrival
9:55 AM Edit This 8 Comments »Its 1 am and I'm supposed to be soundly asleep right now. However, after 3 days here, I'm still trying so hard to adjust my inner clock to not wake up at 12 midnight, which would be 8 am in Malaysia, but is failing terribly. Its weird because at home, I never wake up at 8 am!!! The irony is killing me!!!
My eyes get really heavy about 4 in the evening and the next thing you know, I'm under the duvet. It does not help that by 5 pm the skies are totally dark here. Nope, no help at all.
Anyway, lets backtrack for a while. My flight to London was at 1155 pm. My girlfriends and family (harusla kan) came by to see me off. My luggage was 6 kg overboard so I had to sacrifice some precious Madam Sals and Brahims *tears*. The girls gave me a pink, fluffy scarf as a going away gift, for which I am so grateful for as the wind here would have chewed my face off if not for the scarf!
So when about 1120-ish, I said my tearful goodbyes to the family. I promised not to cry but failed. Wtv, right? Waited at the lounge for about 10 minutes, boarded the plane and sat next to a nice american couple. The 13 hour flight was boring. Watched Law Abiding Citizen (great movie btw..Gerard is so..righteous!), Just for Laughs (mesti nampak cam org gile gelak sorang2) and some episodes of 30 Rock.
I noticed that a lot of people (99% britons on that flight) were staring at me throughout the flight coz I wore a scarf on my head and they were probably afraid that I had a bomb hidden inside my anak tudung or something. That really pissed me off. Really really. I mean, I would understand if this were United Airlines but this was my country's airline and it would be reasonable to expect at least one malaysian citizen with a scarf on board, right? They eyed my heavy bags with suspicion and even watched me as I took off my shoes. Wah wah wahhhhhhh. Ko punya beg tu dah penuh satu compartment ada aku kisah? Ko cabut seluar tadi aku tak blink pon!Ko minum arak mcm minum air mineral 2 btl besar ada aku ckp apa2?!!! The nerve of some people. Didn't their moms teach them its rude to stare?! Next time, please don't bother coming to malaysia again and stay safe in your own damn house if you're so scared of muslims, ignorant buffoons!!!
Ok, ter-emo skjp. Fuhhhh~
Anyway, I arrived safely at Heathrow at about 525 am. Waited for 30 minutes for my luggage to appear. Passed the immigration with flying colours*hah!* and found the taxi driver waiting for me outside. Its about 7 c and freaking cold. After about an hour and a half's drive, arrived at Kent. Paid 75 pounds (oh duitkuuuuuu).
I completed my registration and got my keys. Got lost for 10 minutes trying to look for my room. Found my room at last and fainted on the bed. Woke up 5 minutes later, groggy and wondering where my luggage was! Remembered that I had left them at the registry earlier so went to pick them up.
Later in the evening, this nice lady at the counter (Kim) offered to drop me off at Asda (mcm Tesco) when I asked her whether she could rent me a duvet so I don't freeze to death that night. Went to Asda, and spent 4 hours there. 4 hours!!! I can't begin to tell you how cheap everything is here. The food, toiletries, bedding, clothes, perfumes etc. Suffice to say that my budget of 150 quid was more than enough to buy me everything I needed and more. I just spent about a hundred (trick is, don't convert. If you do, you will end up fainting or vomiting blood when handing over the money.not the best way to represent your country, yah)
The choices of food n drinks here are astonishing! I will post more pictures later so that everyone can salivate and wish they were here too.lol
I've got loads more to tell. My meeting with Bill, my supervisor. My hall and room. The uni and Canterbury. But I'm getting a bit sleepy (yeay?) and I haven't got enough pictures yet.
My pretty little bed
My rooms is in the grey building- Tyler Court C
View from my window
Can you see the spire of the huge Canterbury Cathedral?
Tomorrow, I will be having lunch with Kak Mariani (my colleague). It'll be nice having someone to talk to at last, been talking to myself and the family (skype) for too long! and hopefully she'll be showing me the bus routes and stuff. I need to open up a bank account and buy a cellphone too.
I will also take more pictures *promise* and post them up later.
Until then, I miss everyone at home (ayat apa ni). I'm settling in fine and please add me at skype- jinan mohd pauzi so that I won't go all loony here.
